  1. Getting Things Done

    May 14, 2012

    to do list
I have fallen victim to the to do list many times. I know there are many people who are fans of to do list. I am a fan too. I recently tried something else than increased my output which I’d like to share with you.
Creating a to do list and stocking it up can be overwhelming. Looking at a long list of things you need to do before the end of the day. As you move from one task to the other, the list seems to grow longer. It will be very difficult to focus on the task at hand when your mind is busy imagining the long list of things you still need to check off.
What did I start doing differently?
Rather than stock my day with a long list of items on my to do list, I will write the to do list, but pick three to four items than I can comfortably focus on and get it over with. I have found that with the passage of time, the amount of guilt I feel over not having a well stocked up to do list has reduced and I am getting more done.
As I have often told myself and I agree is the truth, it is never done. I don’t know anyone who ever finishes a day’s job in that day. the Job is never finished. There would always be something extra to add and to do. Why not focus on the high priority tasks and move with those?
It is better to do three things out of ten very well than to do the whole ten in a shoddy manner.
How do you use your to do list? Please share with me in the comments.

  3. I was going to publish a post on benefits of being a multi-passionate Entrepreneur. I decided to break down the frequency of my posts to increase the quality.

Having awesome marketing skills can add more business to you, but poor habits can make you lose in your business.

Have you been trying to learn new habits recently? Habits that will enhance your productivity. If yes, trying this few tips can help the habit stick.

    1. Don't try to do too much. You're more likely to fail and be discouraged. Initially I posted once in a week on my blog. I decided to post daily between 300 - 500 words as a new habit. I am already feeling overwhelmed. So I have broken it down to two post a week. I will still write daily, but will post only twice in a week. Break down your goal into tiny bits, you can increase it as you get more comfortable.

    2. Get a support system to be accountable to. In my case, I am part of a Facebook group started by Aaron Lee. I report my progress to them and get encouragement. You can join us or start your own group. You can decide to make your friend your support. It helps. If you can't find any, I am available to provide support for you. Reach out to me on twitter or email me.

    3. Record & track your progress. I record my progress using evernote application on my PC. I also do a summary on the group page on Facebook for the 30-day challenge. This will help you to know how you are doing and know what to adjust. You may record your progress on a blog or a note book.

    4. Don't beat yourself when you fail at it. Start afresh the next day. You can't learn a new habit with ease, it's tough, it takes time and practice. Anyday you fail at executing the set task, you're not a failure. Just try again. If you're doing too much, reduce the task as I said above.

    5. Reward yourself with an enjoyable activity or something you admire. I love to tweet, I wait till I get my task done & then go online to have fun.

This is my 4th Day in the 30-day challenge to develop a new habit with a Facebook group.. It's been fun and rewarding. I hope to keep it up till the 30th day as see how well I did.

Have you been trying to develop a new habit lately? How have you been going about it? I will love to hear from you in the comment.

  4. “Never compare your beginning to anyone's middle.”

    start

This was a tweet that came pass my Time line on twitter today and it contains some deep messages to me and folks who are starting on a journey (or who are contemplating starting a project).

    Recently, I read a blog by Leo Babauta of Zen Habits. He wrote about How to start, I would quote a few lines from what he wrote;

“It’s [STARTING] one of the most intimidating things. It’s the lack of starting that kills most tasks and projects. Procrastination is putting off the start. Your new venture gets put off because the START is too HARD.”

  5. If you’re not sure who you are and why you are like that, someone who knows who he is and why he’s like that can toss you here and there. – Jesse

It has been a week of test and failing for me. I just finished celebrating failure week last week, and now I have just been hit by another one. What?

  6. Haven spent some time on twitter, I decided to make a check and re-evaluate how I was doing. What I found was shocking. This made me to decide on Killing twitter (post would come up later) #kt21. What did I find? How did I go about killing twitter?
1, I sleep with my blackberry.
2, I wake up at night, and find myself tweeting or twittering,
3, the first thing that comes to my mind when I see something cool is to twitter about it (it may even be so vain)
