As I opened my blogger account this afternoon after a long time, I felt guilty. I have not been actively blogging in the last one year since I started working in digital marketing communication with a smartphone brand. Do I miss it? Yes. Did I really stop writing? No.

I have written more emails, plan documents, tweets and instant messages in the last one year. If they were to be books, I am sure I would have written four to five books. Yeah. So, I am writing this article to tell myself that there is no reason for me to feel guilty. Aha!

I have also not been reading books actively on my Kindle. I read blog posts, the Bible and emails. I think I can do better and start reading actively again. Then I might have more motivations to update this blog a lot more.

At the moment, I still enjoy using gadgets and reviewing them--but they are limited to just one brand. I have an iPhone, TECNO Camon C8, C9, C7 and BOOM J8 at the moment. Of all these devices, I am enjoying the C9 more as I can shoot awesome photos with it.

I have grown so much in my career in the last one year. It has been the most rewarding for me. I got to travel through Ethiopia to China and then visited five Nigerian cities by road taking pictures with the TECNO Camon C9. Very rewarding adventure.

Plus I got married last year, yes. I had no big expectations of marriage--I simply married my friend and it has contributed to my growth.

I am at a crossroad now as to what this blog should be about going forward. But as with my life, I will let serendipity be the guide and if you are with me, I will certainly be updating this blog a lot more.
Samsung Mobile Nigeria called me a few days back and handed me a review unit of the Samsung GALAXY Tend Lite to examine. The Trend Lite is an Android phone with very basic specifications with impressive battery life.

The phone is available for sale in the market for N15,000 in NIgeria. What has my experience been with the phone?

What Impressed me

For someone who uses a Nokia Lumia 1020 on a day to day basis, I find the Trend Lite to be too small in terms of screen real estate. One thing that impressed me despite the smaller screen estate is the efficacy of the virtual keyboard that supports text prediction.

This is a phone you can use as your ideal second phone if you are one of those that carry smartphones that the battery won't last more than 4 hours to 6 hours in a day. The battery of this dual SIM phone will last you for a full day.

This is the phone you want to travel with when going on holiday. You can leave your primary SIM in the phone while you'll still have space for a foreign SIM. Most phones are micro SIM enabled these days (the GALAXY Trend Lite is no exception).

Some features of the Trend Lite

The phone will support microSD up 64 GB. You'll have enough room for videos, photos and music. You do not have to burden the 4 GB built in storage where user installed and default apps are stored.

Do not expect the phone to be snappy and fast as it is a single core phone. This explains the lag I was experiencing while using the phone. The phone is N15,000 after all and there are a host of other sweet spots that are in the phone.

The phone runs on Android 4.1.2 and is powered by a 1500 mAh battery and a 512 RAM. It is 4 inches in size, with a resolution of 480 by 800 pixels at 223 ppi. To keep things in perspective, the Samsung GALAXY S5 is 2800 mAh battery and 2 GB of RAM, 5.1 inches with a resolution of 1080 by 1920 at 432 ppi. See the comparison? But the Samsung GALAXY S5 is far more expensive (N91,000)

Phone Calls

Calls are crystal clear on the phone. Far clearer than call quality on the dual core Infinix Zero from Infinix Mobility. Calls can be received to both SIMs at the same time depending on the settings enabled.

Camera

The phone camera is 3 megapixels. Clearly this is not a phone you can get spectacular photos from. It also lacks camera flash and a dedicated shutter button; you need to hit onscreen shutter button to capture an image.

Conclusion

I am scoring the phone 5.5/10. The screen should have been made more larger. If they did, they'll have to bump the resolution of the screen and then the price will go up too. Aha!

Feel free to ask me any question about the phone. I am still going to have it till the end of the week.

If you find someone asking you what good Android phone they can buy if their budget is between N15,000 and N20,000, you should feel comfortable to recommend the Samsung GALAXY Trend Lite to them. After all, they enjoy the 24 month Smart Care warranty from Samsung as long as they buy the phone from Nigeria or in a country where Samsung Smart Care is offered for the Trend Lite.

This is the first guest blog post on the Brand Evangelist. I have been quiet for a while, but I have had so many things to write but I haven't published them. With Sade Adetayo doing me the honour and guest blogging here, I might just publish more frequently here.

This post is going to help you decide what tablet you should buy. I know folks are always looking for guidance on what tablet to that meets their specification. I leave you to Sade.

Things You Should Know Before Buying a Tablet by Sade Adebayo

Digital life is constantly changing and developing. And the moment you thought portable computers were the last frontier of technology, tablets came in and revolutionized the whole trend and the ways people work, read, communicate, learn and inform themselves.

If you intend to buy one of yourself or give one for Christmas, here are a couple of things you should keep in mind before purchasing it, especially when it comes to understanding which one is the best.

The Price is Right - There are many different kind of tablets, for all sorts of needs and tastes. Of course, some brands are more expensive than others due to different reasons, one of which can be the quality of the article you're purchasing. For example, iPads and the latest Samsung tablets are two of the most expensive in the market, but are also known for their great performance. The newer models are very expensive, but even last-year's models are just as good and can be found second hand online or computer stores with a “second hand” section; all apps can still be downloaded as before and their software is just as good.

Choose your Operating System - Another very influential thing is the system they use and which one suits you best. Basically, there are three main operating systems: iOS (Apple), Android (Google) and Windows. They all have different features and they aim to satisfy different sorts of users. According to your needs (business, leisure, reading, writing) one will be better than the others, just check them out!

Size matters - The size is also very important: tablets are not all the same size, which means they don’t all weight the same. So what are your utility intentions for your tablet? If you plan to just use it as an e-book reader you should try the smaller Kindle versions; but if you plan to use it as a substitute for your laptop then consider larger models. So again, according to your habits and needs you may want a bigger tablet, compromising it with a heavier weight, or a smaller but lighter one.

Wifi? - Last but not least, the way they connect to the internet: some of them go just with a Wi-fi connection, some other have the 4G system, which basically is a tablet-version of the smartphone 3G. What's the difference? As you know, wifi connection is free (look for wifi hot-spots in your city) while 3G and 4G are dependent of a phone company contract. If you want a tablet just to read books on it consider just using wifi, downloading books while at home using your private connection, but if you're going to give it a more generalized use you'll need a sim-card from your phone company to have Internet connection on your device.

The previous considerations are important to keep in mind before purchasing a tablet. You may be alarmed at first thinking of its price, but once you discover how useful and comfortable it is you'll forget all about it and feel glad you invested on one.

I handled a Samsung GALAXY Mega 6.3 a few weeks back. I was put off by the size. It was way too large. Mega may mean big, but that 6.3" size was way too big. find the design to be too bulky and not as slim as some of the newer phone
models in the market. Like I said above, the screen size is one aspect of the
design that I am at home with, I just love it. I spend lots of time reading and sending emails
on my mobile devices. The virtual keypads are not too cramped, they are well
spaced out. However, I had to get SwiftKey X, a better third party virtual
keypad.

I have fallen victim to the to do list many times. I know there are many people who are fans of to do list. I am a fan too. I recently tried something else than increased my output which I’d like to share with you.
Creating a to do list and stocking it up can be overwhelming. Looking at a long list of things you need to do before the end of the day. As you move from one task to the other, the list seems to grow longer. It will be very difficult to focus on the task at hand when your mind is busy imagining the long list of things you still need to check off.
What did I start doing differently?
Rather than stock my day with a long list of items on my to do list, I will write the to do list, but pick three to four items than I can comfortably focus on and get it over with. I have found that with the passage of time, the amount of guilt I feel over not having a well stocked up to do list has reduced and I am getting more done.
As I have often told myself and I agree is the truth, it is never done. I don’t know anyone who ever finishes a day’s job in that day. the Job is never finished. There would always be something extra to add and to do. Why not focus on the high priority tasks and move with those?
It is better to do three things out of ten very well than to do the whole ten in a shoddy manner.
How do you use your to do list? Please share with me in the comments.
While some are raking in some profit, others are counting losses. Regardless of how Nokia may be tanking, I still fancy some of their devices. One of the reasons I am drawn to Nokia phones is that they really do connect people by providing quality at an affordable price.

With me here is the Nokia 603, a low budget and entry level smartphone that packs a lot of performance. There’s hardly anything you want to do that the Nokia 603 can’t do. Except for the love it is not getting from some developers. Aside from that, it is a lovely device for entry level users and still packs some power too. Before I tell you about its awesomeness, what are the Hardware features?

Key Hardware features of The Nokia 603

113.5 x 57.1 x 12.7 mm in dimensions, 109.6g in weight, 74.4cc by volume; monoblock touch form factor

3.5 inch ClearBlack Display TFT touchscreen; 640 x 360 pixels resolution (nHD); scratch resistant front window made from toughened glass.

1GHz processor with GPU co-processor for accelerated graphics and video (2D/3D Graphics HW Accelerator with OpenVG1.1 and OpenGL ES 2.0 support).

5 megapixel full focus (EDoF) camera (no LED flash); HD video capture at 1280 x 720 (720p and 30 frames per second)

Integrated GPS with location support for GPS, A-GPS, WLAN and Cell-ID location techniques.

Compass (magnetometer), accelerometer, proximity and ambient light sensors.

3.5 mm Nokia audio connector for audio out FM Radio with RDS

microUSB (USB 2.0) for file transfers, charging and USB OTG functionality

BP-3L battery with easy access battery cover (standby time of 19 days and talk time of 16 hours (GSM) and 7 hours (WCDMA).

WCDMA 850/900/1700/1900/2100 and GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 (HSDPA Cat 10 - 14.4 MBps, HSUPA Cat 6 - 5.76 Mbps)

WiFi: WLAN IEEE802.11 b/g and Bluetooth 3.0

Processor: ARM 11 at 1 GHz, RAM: 512MB (Which provides a faster processing when you are using it)

2GB mass memory and microSD card slot (supports sizes up to 32GB), 340MB user memory (C: drive)

In box contents: Nokia 603, Nokia Battery BP-3L, Nokia Connectivity Cable CA-179, Nokia Headset WH-207, Nokia High Efficiency Charger AC-10.

Those are the hardware features of the phone.

This phone is low budget at N38,000 [$240 USD in a Nigerian Store], but I was able to enjoy some superb performance from the phone. In what ways does the phone excel?

1. CBD – Clear Black Display. Most of the low budget phones, unlike the Nokia 500 and some others that are available out there, the Nokia 603 has awesome visibility when you are under the direct sunlight. You won’t have to squint or use your second hand to cover the screen for visibility. Enough reason to type while walking on the street. Stop! Don’t! A man was walking and texting on the street and almost walked into a bear. But if you are in an emergency or have any other reason to use your phone in the sun, you we find this feature very useful. The display is clearer and sharper than that of my Nokia N8. Only that it does not have the camera power of the Nokia N8.

2. 5 mega pixel camera – Although the 5 mega pixel camera does not have LED flash, it shoots superb photographs when there is enough lighting from a secondary source—outdoor during the day, indoor with enough lighting.

3. Availability of compatible applications – there are some newer phone models, especially those running Nokia Belle that may not be compatible with some of your favourite apps. In this case, I observed that all my favourite apps works well—Gravity, Opera mini/mobile, Youtube Downloader, Podcatche, Whatsapp, Joiku Spot and more. There are more apps in the Nokia Store, but you don’t want to crowd your phones with apps that you don’t intend to use.

4. Emails management – The email widget is awesome, with clean UI. Sending Emails with the Nokia 603 is a user’s delight. Using Microsoft Exchange Active Sync was easy. I was able to download my contact to the phone using Exchange active Sync. With it, I was able to Sync calendar, Contact and my Note from my Google Mail account.

5. The Text Messaging UI got a facelift especially with the Nokia Belle FP1 that was released yesterday. It makes test messaging more addictive.

6. Well, the Nokia 603 uses a micro SIM. I am not a fan of micro SIMs, but I got my MTNNG SIM cut to micro using a SIM cutter You can do so too, or go get a SIM swap, whichever works best for you.

7. The Phone is what I will describe as a marble. It is a budget phone, but it is also beautiful. Is it does not look cheap.

8. It can view attachments—PDFs, Word Documents, Excell and more. It has even gotten the complete Microsoft Office Mobile App. With this you can use the apps that are provided by Microsoft themselves and be comfortable with it.

9. If you’re a DropBox user. There is support for Dropbox on the Nokia 603 via a third party app called CuteBox. This is one tool I like using to store my files in the cloud among my devices—laptop and Mobile phone

10. The battery life is impressive. It last a whole day with constant connection over an EDGE network. I connect it to 3G+ only when I have to download. For me, EDGE works just fine, when I am not streaming videos or downloading stuff.

11. Music player is awesome and the speakers have superb output. It has got capacitive touchscreen instead of resistive touch screen. <strike>Come to think of it, the screen is TFT and not capacitive. It does not act that way</strike>. It has TFT-LCD Clear-Black display with IPS technology for improved contrast and viewing angles.Plus the screen is scratch resistance. How is that for a low budget phone? [Thanks to Adam for the input :)]

12. The 512 RAM and 1Ghz ROM makes is more snappier than the Nokia N8. After updating to Nokia Belle FP1, I noticed that the transition from Landscape to portrait is snappier and acts like the normal iPhone would act

13. There is also an option that will allow you to check the amount of data you have consumed over time. You can clear it and reset it

What are those things I do not like about the Nokia 603?

1. No LED flash for shooting indoor, at night and when there is poor lighting.

2. Apps that I have grown to love like BufferApp, Springpad and Evernote are not available

The phone wins with me, especially considering the price. And now it got the Nokia Belle fp1. This is just awesome.

Should you buy the phone? Yes, especially if you’re not expecting some of those apps that are not available on Symbian. Good value for your money. In these parts where power is a problem, you will get some impressive battery performance. Note: first time smartphone users will enjoy this device. Don’t forget it is an all touchscreen phone.

Is there anything you’d like to know? ask in the comments below.

You can follow me on twitter @jesseoguns

That is how I will label the Nokia N9. I have had a trial unit courtesy of Nokia Connects for a few days. The unit I have is Blue.

What prompted me to trial this device is what I have heard about Swipe being addictive. After using it for a few days, I can tell you how addicted i have been to Swipe. I tend to Swipe each time on my Nokia N8 too.

I will not go into details of listing the specs of the Nokia N9. If you want to read all the specs, you can find them here and some expert review from Mr Mobility. I can quickly tell you that the Nokia N9 runs on Meego OS, not Symbian. The camera is 8MP and shoots close up macro shots. It comes in 16/64Gb storage with 1GB RAM.

How does the Nokia N9 measure up?

If I try to cover the whole Nokia N9 review in this post, I will end up with a book. I will tell you about is looking through my own lense. How do I see the Nokia N9?

It gets my work done—emails, text messaging, social media (Facebook, Twitter), messaging via Gtalk, Facebook and Skype was uber cool (Although I miss not having Whatsapp on it), Photography (Macro shots are possible) and taking screen shots. I am not a gamer and I am not huge with Music. I will touch those aspects slightly though.

Email

You can set up email easily on it. Just go to the email icon on the menu by Swiping and you can enter the parameters for your email.

Messaging

I find the Messaging integration of the Nokia N9 very fascinating. The design of the sms UI and the speed with which the OS responds makes me want to keep texting. The touch keypads are well spaced and very responsive also.

Some awesomeness about the messaging integration are;

- When you sign in to Facebook, Gtalk, Skype and twitter, you are given an option to integrate your contacts with the contact on your phone. When you do, it makes it a very easy task for you to message them directly from the traditional messaging app.

- You can easily click on the tiny messaging icon by the bottom right corner and you’d be given an option to see all your contacts that are online and the methods available that you can start chatting with them immediately.

Using Skype, Facebook and Gtalk chat feels like you are chatting using an iPhone. It is fast and clean.

Photography

The camera is Okay. It gives a better production than what is obtainable on the Nokia E7. It shoots macro shots—you can shoot close up photos without getting blurry images.

Straight from the box, there are applications that are bundled with the phone. Many of the apps are apps many use daily, like;

- Facebook

- Twitter

- Skype

- Gtalk

- Wireless Hotspot – That will allow you to share your mobile internet with other wireless devices

- Angry birds and a few other games

- Note app and some others.

I had to log in with my Nokia Store account to access the store and download some apps that I normally use but are not bundled.

In order to do this review, I will need to take screen shot. So, I looked in the store and saw a screen snap app called; Screen capture. The app is free. It worked just fine. I also downloaded Foursquare app. If you are a huge fan of Foursquare, it is available for free too.

The app I miss not having is Gravity app. The awesome twitter app for Symbian designed by Jan Ole. I also miss not having Opera Mini. The week I got the phone, a beta release was made available for Opera mobile. However, I found the native browser more capable and usable.

The Native browser

The native browser is HTML5 enabled. If you sign in to Twitter, you will get the mobile web app version of twitter.

The browser is equally fast. When reading an article, there is an option to share directly to your connected accounts—Twitter, Facebook, Text message and Email. This is missing in the browser for Nokia Belle on my Nokia N8

The Battery

If you know the Nokia N900, a Meego powered phone from Nokia, you will k now that the phone has serious battery issue. This is not the case with the Nokia N9. I got a full day use after charging it full. I connected to Internet only when I needed to use the web via my mobile internet data.

If you are looking at using your phone for for emails, messaging, social media and mobile browsing. You’d love having the phone. Coupled with the fact that the phone is fast, responsive and beautiful.

The limitation I see with the phone is the lack of a wide range of apps available for it. If you are an app-centric person, you may have to look elsewhere. Gravity app, an app I enjoy on Sysmbian is not available on Nokia N9.

The Nokia N9 does not get the same promotion with Nokia Lumia range. I don’t see any rapid improvement happening to the phone. This is what I am most discouraged about. However, there is a new upgrade to the OS

which shows that Nokia still going to support it. The question is; will developers develop for this beautiful phone that seems to be dead on arrival?

There are limited supply of this phone. So, I see it as a collectors items. I don’t see Nokia producing more of it. The design has already been ported to Lumia 800. The Lumia 800 has the same polycarbonate body like the Nokia N9.

Will you be picking a Nokia N9?

Some more screenshots and photos

P.S. The truth is that technology itself does not enable anything. It is the way people use it to connect with and solve problems that makes technology valid. Remove the people in technology, what you'd have will be a matrix-like kind of machine that seeks to control humans.

<span style="font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif"">

<span style="font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif"">When you are bored what do you do? You seek for a connection. How? Some seek this kind of connection in books, music, movie or other forms of arts and entertainments. Think about it for a while; does art make itself? People create art based on their interpretation of their experiences and environment. The kinds of art and entertainment you like draw you closer to your own kind of people.

<span style="font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif"">

<span style="font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif"">Why do you think that Ad agencies when creating ads do not just display the products, but also include pictures of people? We connect with people not things. We don't buy things just because they are lovely, we buy them because the help us share same experience with the people we admire and cherish.

<span style="font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif"">

<span style="font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif"">A baby picks and iPad and sees the picture of a bird or a particular kind of animal and wants to touch it and play with it. You can use Google Earth on your computer to see the Aerial view of some places you have never been to. A documentary on National Geography shares the story of people in sub-saharan Africa with you. Behind all these is the use of different forms of technology. The contents so created are conceived and created by people, not so?

<span style="font-family:"Century Gothic","sans-serif"">The next time you extol the worth of technology, remember that tech is only as useful as the people who choose to create an experience, art or solution with it. Did he feal defeated? No! He went ahead and founded NeXT, a computer company headquartered in Redwood City, California, that developed and manufactured a series of computer workstations. The company was later bought by Apple and the innovative products can be found in Mac OS X.
It is worthy to note that Jobs was called back to Apple and made a huge comeback in growing the company, lauching the iPod, iPhone and iPad range of products that became huge success.
It's never late to start something new, you're never too old. It's over only at death. If you're feeling despondent at this moment, gather strenght from this tiny story of success, start something, make it better. Failure is a process that toughens you up for greater success.
I have failed myself many times, but never see myself as a failure, rather I have kept learning and getting better. I feel tired too, no one is imune against it, but I never tire out. Success is celebrated when achieved, but there are lot's of work, sweat and trying times that went into it.
Get up, dream again and go to work on your dream. Is it a startup? Keep working and learning.
Find people who will support you and give you strenght in the dark days. (For startups, look for innovation hubs to partner with)
Most of all, you owe it to yourself to never give up. Remember Steve Jobs.
You can follow me on twitter @jesseoguns

I can't imagine how awful I'll feel without having access to data on my mobile devices. The bulk of my work and play take place on my mobile.
The server outage of RIM created a rift in the valley. Many relationships--business and social--are built on BBM or access to the web via a blackberry phones. Except for those on the enterprise service--BES--most of the services on BIS wasn't working in Africa, Middle East and Europe. (Updated The America, US and Canada were eventualy affected too) For those who depend on Blackberry to do their business or connect with friends and family, they must have asked; How long will this last? What other options do I have? Is their any other device that can work as effectively?
I will try to help out with a few answers. The outage is due to the Blackberry (RIM) server servicing EMEA (Europe, MiddleEast and Africa). RIM is working to fix it though. The best answer I have is that RIM and there group of engineers are working on it but do not have a time announced that they would fix it.
What other options do you have?
Most of the services used and preferred by Blackberry users are also available on other devices. Some of the preferred services are Blackberry Messenger (BBM), Social Media integration (Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare and LinkedIn), and Email--although there are those who own a BB just for the social connectivity.
I own a Nokia E7, E71 and 500 currently. I can do all you do on a blackberry except for BBM. But I can do Blackberry kind of messaging with BB users, iphone and Android users by installing Whatsapp. Not as intuitive, but it gets the job done. You may want to pick a Nokia Device running the current Symbian Anna Operating system like; Nokia E6, N8, C7, N8 and some others. The apps are available in the Nokia Store for your use.
Android is another option. It is an Operating system developed by Google, used by Samsung, HTC, Huawei, Sonyericsson, LG and some other phone makers. If you want and Android device you can pick any of the phone makers above. There's the Android market (Application store) where you can get lots of apps for games, social and business. Whatsapp works on Android too. So you can keep in touch the BBM way at least. How much can I get an Android device? Depends on the one you choose. There are low end and high end Android devices. You can get an Android phone from Samsung and LG that's about N29,000.
The last option I want to mention is the Apple option. iPhone is a great device. That can be very simple to use and smart in executing stuffs. If you're new to touch and the Apple platform, you may have a few learnings to do.
One of the beauty of the Blackberry is the data subscription--BIS. Once you pay, you're covered for the month. You don't have that luxury with other Operating system (Androids, Symbian, Windows and iOS). You'd subscribe to a mobile data plan that has a limit. Depending on your need, there are 100mb, 150mb, 500mb, 1Gb, 3Gb, and 5Gb options across all the Nigerian Networks.
The plus you have when subscribing for mobile data plan on non-Blackberry phones is, you can turn your device to hotspot and connect it to other devices that have WiFi like an ipad, your PC or your friends phone. You can share the dat on your Blackberry even if you want to.
Blackberry devices are fine, though it can't suit my own needs for now. The information I shared here can help you in making your decission to switch if you're looking for an alternative.
Are you a Blackberry user? How did you feel when your Blackberry service stopped functioning? I will like to hear from you in the comments.
You can follow me on twitter @jesseoguns

Oct 8, 6pm GMT

Editors Note: Framing post for the next #mbGeeks chat by Deborah Elzie -

There are so many changes happening in relation to social networks these past few months with the release of Google + and now Facebook's major makeover announced at f8.

What is really happening, should we really start to worry about sharing too much personal data via social networks? Have we spent enough time thinking about who owns our data and how it is being used? Are these new changes good and beneficial? Or should we be more wary of the way corporations want to use our data? Being informed will affect the way we use Facebook going on from now.

A recent report, Standard Bank's 'Africa Macro Insight and Strategy,' notes that social media are being eagerly adopted by Africans, wih Africa being one of Facebook's fastest growing markets. "There are currently around 32-million Facebook users in Africa, meaning that about 27% of
African Internet users have Facebook profiles, compared to 18% of Internet users in Asia."

So for the next #mbgeeks, we thought it would be a good idea to see just what the new Facebook changes may mean to us. Are we discussing these issues enough? Are we well informed?

Here are the questions we would be looking into in tomorrows chat;

Q1 When sharing information what should we worry about sharing too much personal data via social networks?

Q2 Can sharing our personal data make us empowered consumers?
http://blogs.hbr.org/cs/2011/10/are_you_ready_for_consumers_to.html

Q3 Are we willing to share our personal data with marketers, if yes in exchange for what?

Q4 A recent SA study said SMS and Facebook are preferred channels for marketers. What are your thoughts?
http://www.bizcommunity.com/Article/196/347/59006.html

Q5 Who's the customer and what's the product? (especially as we don't pay to use Facebook, twitter, Google+)
http://blog.curry.com/stories/2011/10/06/occupyFacebook.html

Q6a Have you tried the new Facebook timeline and ticker?

Q6b Does Facebook's new features such as the Timeline and Ticker over share?
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44677285/#.To5n45xmKDo

Q7 How can we become more empowered consumers, especially in regards to social media?
What has this resulted to?
Some bloggers receive money, are investors in certain startup venture or are related to someone in a startup, but will write about them as if s/he's giving an honest opinion. How can I give an honest opinion, free of bias, if I am investing in a venture? Is it possible? It is the same with if I have been paid or given a gift of a sort.
Example is when Nokia gives me a loaned device to review for two weeks. In the beginning of my post, I stated that is was a loaned device. It is obvious therefore that Nokia is doing promotion of their brand. It is left for the readers after reading the disclosure I stated clearly, to determine if they'd believe what I have shared.
It is however widespread that bloggers receive such gift or have a deep involvement with a startup, brand or venture but never disclose it. They go on to write about it as if the opinion is 100 percent free of bias.
Here is why full disclosure is good. It makes people trust you. However, if they found out that your write-up or opinion is influence by a gift or interest, they may find it hard to trust or believe you in the future.
To protect your image and guard your authenticity, consider stating the involvement and interest you have in a venture, if there is any, when writing about them.
What will you do if you find out that someone you've always trusted wasn't giving you his/her honest opinion on her blog, but rather is influenced by personal interst and gift received? I will like to hear from you in the comment.
****
P.S. Mainwhile, I like @Arington's full disclosure on his new blog, Uncrunched. Louis Gray is another person who does a lot of disclosure on his blog-- louisgray.com. Check him out.
You can follow me on twitter @jesseoguns

Before then, I use to use computer in a cafe. I graduated from the university in 2008 August. I live in Nigeria.
To understand where I am coming from, most university students in Nigeria don't have a personal computer. It's either too expensive or they're not aware of the value (Most access the web on their smartphones).
I never bothered to dig deeper into the understanding of the terms; HDD--Hard Disk Drive, Memory and RAM. I mention them, but deep down, I don't understand what they mean and how it affect me as a new computer owner, back then and now.
I started to frequent mobility.com.ng, hang out with geeks and developers, but still did not probe the meaning of those terms. Then tonight, I read something from guardian.co.uk saying; it is dumb to think that Memory and Storage is the same. Huh? I said to myself. That means I am dumb, no?
I decided I won't stay dumb. I logged on to twitter and tweeted; "What is the difference between MEMORY and STORAGE? Please."
I have wonderful friends on twitter, two people responded with a link, while one person responded with an answer. I realised that, our friends--those we know and who know us--are better resources, than search algorithms.
I should have learned the different between those terms, but I thought it was stress and then not a relevant information. I am glad, I know now, plus it has opened my mind to other information.
What I found out after reading, in my own words:
HDD - Hard Disk Drive is the magenetic device in your computer that stores information parmanently. It is where the operating system and other system files, music, video et'al, are stored. The data in the HDD is preserved even when power is off.
RAM - is simply Memory. It is a temprary storage for information that the computer is using at the moment. Whenever power goes off, any information stored in the RAM--Random Access Memory--is gone. (that's why you lose unsaved numbers and call history when you remove your battery from your phone. Aha! I never knew)
So, I thought to myself, aha! This is the reason we hibernate our computer sometimes. I do hibernate my computer too, but never knew why. Now I know. If power goes of, all the work I am working on that are not saved parmanently in the HDD is lost. But if I hibernate, power doesn't go off, so I would have my current work saved temporarily on the RAM. Ding dong!!!
I am so excited at this discovery. Thanks to Beth Granger, Tobi and Funmi for comming to my rescue on twitter ;-)
That's my little strory. I think it's the way geeks work. They are curious people. They find answers. I may well be on my way of becoming a geek :D
I can build on this knowledge in the future. I have thus learned that; one knowledge opens the door for another. Seek knowledge and beceome wise.
***
If you enjoy my little story, consider sharing it with your friends.
You can follow me on twitter @jesseoguns

You should train yourslelf to distinguish between the two. When you do, it will be easier for you when someone of authority says something, you don't just swallow it.
OPINIONS are subjective--they way I choose to see it, while FACTS are objective--the way it is.
The next time you engage in a conversation or debate with someone, perform an X-ray, distinguish between the OPINIONS and the FACTS.
You are free to follow other people's opinion, but be aware what they are and don't peddle them as fact.
What are your thoughts on this brief quote? Please share in the comments.
You can follow me on twitter @jesseoguns

This is a sign that parents are concerned. There is need for concern.
Why Be Concerned?
Unlike Telivision and cable TV that have parental control, there is limit to how parents can control what their children do when accessing the web.
Parents may decides not to hand over smartphone to their children. However, many private schools now have internet access within the school. A school may decide to block access to social media sites. [Do schools actually do that?]
From my investigation with a prominent member of the PTA of the school where I will be speaking, she made it clear to me that the children have access to internet on home computer and also have personal smart phones.
With access to the web and social media sites on computer and mobile, the children are expose to huge influence--good and bad.
If you're a parent and you don't know much about what social media may be exposing your children to, here is a few list:
1. Influence - The most popular among the social media of the day is Facebook with over 800 million users. There is also Twitter, Tumblr, 2go, Blackberry messenger and a host of others. With a Facebook and twitter account, young ones can connect with their popular TV, musical, game and Movie online.
If parents control the music, game, movie and TV programmes that children see at home, there's little control they can have when their ward are accessing contents online via social networks. Youths are influenced more by what their friends tell them and what they see online, believing their parents do not belong to this era. Parents need to know that social media will increase peer influence and peer pressure.
2. Privacy and Security - There is need to guide you children on how the use social web. There are cases of online bullying and pedophiles. Some adults may pretend to be youths and ask for personal informations, like phone number, home address, school and the like.
All these can result in security threat--Kidnapping et'al. Spend some time with them and let them know the implication of sharing private information with strangers.
3. Health Implication - There's popularity contest--who has the most friends, most comments on social media sites.
I will continue it later. I have to attend to dramma rehearsals now. Permit the typos, I am yet to edit it. ;-)
You can follow me on twitter @jesseoguns

It's a different ball game with me.
I have found the E6 as a very capable device satisfying my needs. Everyday I spend with it I love it more. Just like ladies, we love them despite their weaknesses, they are human. The E6 is as perfect as a lady.
The Features That Trips me
I depend on my mobile phone as my primary access to the web--to get news, read my favourite blogs, receive and send e-mails, use my favourite social network (twitter), blog and manage my blog.
- Blogging. I use blogger platform on my private blog and guest blog on a WordPress blog. I can easily open my email and conveniently start typing away to publish on my blogger. I love the size of the text, bigger that on the Nokia E71, easy scrolling with my index finger. There is a WordPress app for Symbian^3 phones which works well for this device. (I am filling in this blog post while waiting to see someone. Speaking of ease) Editing the post is easier. i don't have to scroll with the D-pad, but with my fingers on the touch screen.
- QWERTY + Touch screen. This is a killer combo. I am still new to touch screens and find it difficult to type fast. I don't have to worry with the QWERTY key pad on the E6. The pads are soft and tender on my thumb. It allows me to type fast and for a long time without sustaining blisters. I have sustainned several blisters using the E71, it is harder.
The touch screen makes it easier for me to scroll up, down and round the page. I only wished I could touch to pick calls. I have to hit on the answer button, not on the screen to pick a call.
- The Storage. It has an 8gb mass memory, jeez! That means apps, musical collections, movies, photographs, podcasts and videos. I also have the previlege to use external memory card up to 32gb, wow! that is huge.
- The camera is 8MPix. As long as you maintain a reasonable distance you're fine. I could not get perfect shots whenever I am close to the image. But I am still cool. I would have loved the camera to be like the N8's.
- My Apps. I have apps installed according to my needs. If your needs are similar to mine, you'd find the apps useful too.
1. Whatsapp. For instant messaging--pinging--with my friends and contacts using Nokia, iPhone, Android and Blackberry. I don't have to log in to use the app. Available for Free for 1 year.
2. Skype. It worked perfectly with the E6. I was able to make voice call with EDGE network with clarity. I was shocked. Same EDGE on my laptop won't work. I also use it as messaging platform too.
3. Gravity. I use it for twitter, foursquare and Google reader. I find it easier to use on E6 due to the touch screen capability. Scrolling between tweets on my E71 use to be diacouraging.
4. fMobi. For accessong Facebook. But, I am not a huge fan of facebook.
5. Nimbuzz. For Gtalk, Yahoo and Facebook messenger.
6. Operamini. This is the browser I found myself using more. I can open more than 3 tabs, unlike the native browser. Scrolling is easier due to the touch function of the screen, helps to reduce internet data consumtion and has ability to share articles and blog posts directly to Twitter or Facebook which is missing also in the native browser. Those are some of my top apps that I installed.
* joikuspot came pre-installed and I love it dearly. It allowed me to share my mobile internet between several wireless device. I maintained data subscription on the E6, but occassionally share it with my E71, my laptop and with friends. It's a premium app, but it came bundled in for FREE. Yaaay!
- The OS. Symbian Anna is soooo sexy. I handled a Nokia E7 running old Symbian^3 and I felt sad for those who are yet to get an update. Better and cleaner view with Anna. I bet you're going to fall in love at first sight. It has improved the browser look, feel and function. The font is a lot prettier. I will chose an E6 running Symbian Anna over an E7 communicator running the old Symbian^3.
What I don't like about the E6.
- the screen is small, 2.46". If you have bad/poor eye sight, forget about it. It is worse id you're trying to read web pages.
- the social app for accessing Facebook and Twitter that came with it is awful. I only use it when uploading pics to Facebook or twitter. It is integrated with the picture gallery. The UI sucks and it is pretty slow. Nokia needs to step up the game on that.
- my emails deliver late. Emails arrive faster on my older Nokia E71.
Regardless of these few minuses, I still see the E6 as one pretty-sexy device I want to own and flaunt.
If your needs are similar to mine, you'd love it. The E6 will make a perfect date if you love texting, email, QWERTY and engage in social networking a lot. Business executives with good eye sight would find it useful. It has capability for wordpreocessing, Excell, PDF file reading and Powerpoint.
Will you be getting a Nokia E6?
You can follow me on twitter @jesseoguns

The response from someone was, it's outdated. Whaaaaaat???
The issue isn't if Nokia is outdated or not, but with the question and the answer. Let me make it clearer.
There's no perfect phone for all. Even when you think you have that perfect device, you'd wish for one more thing that is missing in it. That said, I think the questioner has needs and also have a budget. The question should have been;
"I have a budget of $, I need a phone that does.... Is an E6 fine?"
Who is qualified to answer? Someone who has used the phone and can explain how the needs of the prospective buyer can be met by the device.
The next time you see such question--Is a Nokia E6 a good phone, ask a further question--what would your ideal phone be able to do? Or something similar.
By the way I have had a Nokia E6 with me since Monday, for trial, by WOMWorldNokia. I am putting together my review and it will be up on mobility.com.ng when I am done.
I am not a geek, but I love mobile phones as a means of work and play. My current device is the Nokia E71. I am looking forward to purchase the E6, hence the trial. You can check my post later.
How would you have answered the above question?
***
blogged from Nokia E6
You can follow me on twitter @jesseoguns

The blog is a journey of discovery. I have been having some thoughts lately and it has generated more questions.
The harder the question the deeper I dig to the heart of men and mine.
The events in the past few weeks have generated converstions and comments. Some I have participated in, while I only look & listen on while the debate goes on with the rest.
First, Of ART and MONEY
Beauty is in a work of art. Artists take delight in creating work of beauty. How easy is it for a true artist who is spured to create, but limited by the quest for survival -- *Ki la ma je*?
So I asked can you be true to your art and still be a successful business paerson? When art meet with a desire to generate money, what happens?
Or perhaps I should ask, what should be the core motivation for creating a work of art?
I asked the question on twitter and I got a response - art is good, but use your head. Show me the money, a lady responded.
I love to write on this blog to share lessons I have learned and improve my work as a communicator via writing and teaching. Then on the other hand, I have to make a decent living. I can stay completely true to my art and make it relevant. This is the chore -- figuring out the ideal audience for my work of heart.
When Art and money meets there is battle. If you're involved in a work of art, I would like to know how you mearge the two.
Not all who stay true to their art make enough money from it. Some are torn between staying true to their art or finding out what the people are ready to pay for. You can tie the two together.
With the Nigeria youths, entertainment is huge. If you can build entertainment into your work of art you're more likely to catch their attention. What will help is define your ideal market -- that requires work. [I am working on a series on how to target the ideal and paying customers]
I have written this post not to teach, but to share what I have been pondering about, to open a discussion. I would like your contribution in the comments let me see how you are managing your art with the need to earn money, stay relevant and still enjoy your work.
***
Please share with your friends.
You can follow me on twitter @jesseoguns

The strenght of your network can open doors of opportunities to you.

Networking with the right people can provide an awesome leverage . Either you're looking for a job or you're strarting a business. Business owners looking to grow their business need to build networks too.

Who should you network with?

You don't want to be a snob. At the same time you can't give your attention equally to everyone. You should spend your time with people that enrich and add value to you. It is also okay to spend time with people who want you to add value to them. Balance is needed.

In this post I want to share with you how a super connector can be of advantage to you in your network and how to spot one.

- A connector is outgoing. Takes time to know people and build relationships with them. Once a connector is impressed by you and likes you, that's all. Whenever he sees something or someone that can add value to you, s/he's going to connect you. A friend of mine, Debbie Elzie, whom I met on twitter is a connector. She knows I love marketing and saw an account on twitter and recommended I follow the person. I have been enriched from that connection as an individual.

- A connector knows people from different cirlcles and is a born networker. The likelyhood that s/he know who can get what done is high. His/her direct contact may not have the solution, but may know someone who knows someone that has the solution. ;-)

- A connector can also be a great advocate for you. Extending your personal brand and presenting it to people who are likely to pick interest.

I am moved to share this few tip as I have been seeing the benefits of having connectors in my network.

Twitter is a tool for building networks and relatioships. You can use it to spot connectors as well.

You can become more aware of connectors offline as well. It will take time for you to spot who a connector is. When you spot such a person, invest in the relationship. It pays to be genuine. Do not try to play it as a game.

Do you have a connector is your network, offline or online? What are some benefits you've derived?

You can follow me on twitter @jesseoguns
